I am Mauricio García, born in Mexico City in July 1965. Since I was very young, I have always been eager to invent and do things differently. I built rockets using my own gunpowder, constructed ultralight airplanes, and even built a sailboat in my parents' backyard. Unfortunately, none of these endeavors ended well; they resulted in explosions, fires, and, of course, the exhaustion of my parents' patience. That phase ended, and I grew up dedicating myself fully to a passion that I still hold dear to this day: the wonderful world of finance, investment project development, aviation, and sustainable countryside developments. In addition to studying Business Administration, pursuing postgraduate courses, and being a volunteer paramedic, I obtained my Helicopter Pilot Captain License. I have been working since the age of 18 in brokerage houses as a broker, money market trader, and stock trader, in foreign representative banks based on some Caribbean islands, and providing consultancy for the buying and selling of companies and airlines.
During a period when I was working in the financial sector, I had an excellent portfolio of investors. I devoted myself entirely to my work, the brokerage firm, and my clients. However, during a family dinner one night while discussing my work, my older brother, whom I greatly admire and who was an extraordinary and intelligent person, raised an eyebrow and slowly tugged at his mustache. He said to me, "Mau, I see that you're giving your life to your job, the company, and your clients. Tell me, how much of all that money you handle is left for you? Do they at least acknowledge it? Do your clients appreciate it? Are you fulfilling yourself in your life and as a person?" He looked at me with a gaze that was both cold and tender, then got up and left. After countless sleepless nights, replaying my brother Luis's comment over and over in my mind, I made the decision to resign a few months later, to the disbelief of many. That was the beginning of a period filled with all kinds of incredible, enriching, dangerous, and catastrophic experiences around the world. Of course, a monthly paycheck was not guaranteed. That's how I started my career as a financial advisor and investment project consultant. I've had all kinds of clients and consultations. Like almost everyone in life, I've experienced times of "lean cows and fat cows," and a couple of times there were "no cows." At a point in my life when there were "no cows," and I found myself desolate with only two friends, divorced, without my children, and without capital to invest, I said to myself, "I won't live through this again. I don't want to, I shouldn't, I can't." The criticisms of all kinds were overwhelming and abundant, and it was then that I decided to pursue My Life Project away from an inept social and family group. A property in the countryside, away from big cities but relatively close to them, with a small to medium-sized supportive population nearby. A house (orchard) that would provide all the comforts of a modern city home with low living and maintenance costs, avoiding as much as possible the enormous expenses from inefficient and expensive electricity services, reducing annual property tax, water, gas payments, having monthly income, and having access to organic and healthy food. Impossible? No. Difficult? Somewhat. Achievable? Absolutely.
And so began this wonderful journey in which I dedicated myself to researching, studying, and working on My Project; it was all about researching and learning ancient construction techniques, materials used, varieties and characteristics of modern concrete, lightweight construction techniques, thermal insulation materials, efficient and organic techniques for growing vegetables and fruits, waste management, sustainability, innovation, and of course, the exciting world of blockchain, ICOs, and cryptocurrencies. In the latter, I wasn't a great expert and didn't have much experience; I had to find the right person who shared the ideology of my Project, who was an expert in information technology, and had experience in cryptocurrency development. I began to project and scale up my project to a higher level where I could share it with more people and families like us seeking a certain level of stability, tranquility, and peace in a natural, safe environment, with "farm-to-table" production on-site, but with all the comforts and services that can be found in a big city. Air and land connectivity, picturesque villages, historic centers, culture, and if possible, proximity to the beach were some minimum requirements for my Project. Everything pointed to the State of Yucatán, Mexico, which I already knew almost entirely; after seeing some interesting properties, the concept of building the "Aldea Quetzal" development emerged. Many people said that my problem was that "I am a dreamer," which amused me as I watched their routine lives unfold; on one occasion, I replied sharply: "A dreamer with knowledge, discipline, and focus becomes a Visionary." Life continued, I continued working on my consultations, and I pursued my purpose; until one day, my brother Alejandro approached me and told me he wanted to introduce me to his friend Arturo, who has the knowledge and experience I am looking for and is himself looking for a project like mine. My brother completed the circle with experience in international marketing and sales. That was the moment when the team was formed, and this wonderful project began. Thank you for your interest and time!
